The branch of Chemistry whose primary focus is the application of quantum mechanics in physical models and experiments of chemical systems is Quantum chemistry or Molecular quantum mechanics. Common methods used by quantum chemists to obtain information regarding the quantization of energy on a molecular scale is by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, infra-red (IR) spectroscopy and scanning probe microscopy. The working of Theoretical quantum chemistry, falls under the category of computational chemistry. Quantum chemical theories explains the structure of the periodic table, and quantum chemical calculations gives accurate predictions of the structures of molecules and the spectroscopic behavior of atoms and molecules.
